Process of an order
Firstly, and most importantly: Don’t be afraid. Like every professional editor/proofreader I know that editing your text is a very intimate and personal matter, especially if it’s a project close to your heart, like a children’s book or a novel. My job is not to judge your book or tear it apart. A kind communication and working together on eye level is very important to me. So don’t be afraid to request a non-binding offer or book a commission. Together we will make sure your text shines in every aspect while keeping its original charm alive.

The process of an editing or proofreading commission
1) Query
In a short e-mail you present your project to me (genre, word count, short plot summary). You let me know which of my offers appeals to you and what specific services you need. Then I can tell you if and when I would be able to start working on your project. I will also ask you to send me a representative sample of your text (about 3–5 Standard Pages).
2) Sample work
I will edit/proofread your sample text. This way I can create a personalized offer for you. It also ensures you can get to know my way of working beforehand. You can stop the commission at this point in case you feel we don’t fit together as work partners or you have changed your mind for another reason.
Note: To prevent people from obtaining free services by using this offer, I will charge a one-time fee if no commission results from the sample edit/proofreading (editing: 30 €, proofreading: 20 €). If you book the commission after the sample work, you do not need to pay this fee.
3) Offer
If both sides are satisfied with the sample edit/proofreading, I will create a personalized offer for you. I will send you a detailed e-mail (or a PDF upon request) with a summary of our agreed terms including the price we will have talked about beforehand. After you have accepted the offer in a written response, the commission will start.
Note: I reserve the right to change the price later in the process, e.g. if a significant part of the text is considerably more work than it was to be expected according to the sample text.
4) The editing/proofreading
After you have sent me all required documents (e.g. manuscript, texts describing worldbuilding, etc.) I can start working. Throughout the whole process we will stay in contact in case anything needs to be clarified or revised. This way we can both stay up to date.
5) End of the commission
After my work is done, I will send you an e-mail with the invoice and a coupon for 10% off your next editing or proofreading commission with me. After I have received your payment, I will send you your manuscript with edits, corrections and comments for you to incorporate into your text.

Process of an illustration commission
1) Query
You want one of your projects to be illustrated by me, you like my style and you know my pricing guidelines. Now it’s time to contact me. Send me a short e-mail describing your project and your vision. Also let me know your expected schedule and your budget. After that I will be able to tell you if and when it will be possible for me to take on your project.
2) Meeting
Illustrating for someone as well as having your vision brought to life by someone is a very personal matter and can best be discussed in a personal meeting. For that we can meet online or in a place that works for both of us. We will discuss your visions and ideas and will agree on a schedule and a budget.
3) Offer
If we decide to start the project, I will send you an offer. You will receive a detailed e-mail (or a PDF upon request) with a summary of our agreed terms. After you have accepted the offer in a written response, the commission will start.
Note:
I reserve the right to change the price later in the project if it proofs significantly more work than was to be expected upon our meeting (e.g. many revision loops or big changes in the overall idea)
4) Illustration
After you have sent me everything I need (e.g. text, photos, references etc.) I can start working. Throughout the whole process we will stay in contact in case anything needs to be clarified or revised. This way we can both stay up to date. You will receive sketches to verify and if changes come up, you will let me know as soon as possible. I’m happy to provide work-in-progress-updates for you to use to promote your project or show to friends.
5) End of the commission
When I’m done with your illustrations and both sides are satisfied you will receive an e-mail with the invoice and a coupon for 10% off your next project with me. After I have received your payment, I will send you the ready-to-print illustrations as PDF documents. Please let me know if you need the illustrations in other formats. I’m also happy to take on the printing order for you (printing costs are paid by the commissioner). In this case your illustration will reach you via post.
